No matter what stage of your career you're in, Long Term Disability Insurance can be an important part of your financial future. Coverage amounts up to $15,000, in increments of $1,000, are available with Plan B and Plan C. The plan you choose determines when your benefits begin. With Plan A, you may choose up to $10,000 of coverage.

The rates above are subject to change, but only on a class basis. All monthly and cost of living rates are based on your age at the time of your effective date of coverage. Any subsequent changes to your rate are based on your age on each November 1st.

Duration of Your Benefits

Prudential will send you a payment each month up to the maximum period of payment. Your maximum period of payment is:

*Your normal retirement age is your retirement age under the Social Security Act where retirement age depends on your year of birth.

TMA Member LTD plan benefit durations will be determined using Social Security normal retirement ages as indicated above.

The Prudential Insurance Company of America will treat your disability as continuous if your disability stops for 30 consecutive days or less during the elimination period. The days you are not disabled will not count toward your elimination period. The options for the elimination periods are Plan A (30 days), Plan B (90 days), and Plan C (180 days).You must be continuously disabled through your elimination period.

An optional Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) feature for participants under the age of 65 helps protect the buying power of your disability benefits. Cost of Living adjustments are limited to 8 adjustments. Automatic annual increases to your disability benefits are equal to the lesser of 6%, or 50% of the increase in the Consumer Price Index for that year.

Physicians who apply for coverage prior to age 40 will be offered an annual opportunity to obtain or increase their monthly coverage amount. Increments of $1,000, up to a maximum cumulative amount of $5,000, are available without having to provide evidence of good health. This offer is subject to amount limitations based on earnings and/or other coverage and is subject to the overall plan maximum. The offer expires at age 45.

Residents can request a $4,000 monthly coverage amount without answering any health questions, as long as they're a TMA member. There’s no reason not to apply—it’s quick and easy to request coverage. When you complete your residency, members may apply for up to $5,000 without having to provide evidence of good health, or up to $15,000 with full medical underwriting.
